30 Thankful Days – Day 7

Someone might have wondered where days 2-6 are.  I promptly realized after Day 1 that posting every single day was going to be a tall order.  I committed to NaNoWriMo for the first time ever, and churning out 50,000 words in 30 days is a task that leaves me wide-eyed and breathless every time I sit down to chip away at it.

So I have decided to update on Thursdays, pausing each week through Thanksgiving to reflect on the gifts, simple and extravagant, tucked into my every day.  And without further ado . . .

November 2: Our surprise and delight to find softball-sized honeycrisp apples.  They were as big as the kids’ faces, bursting with all the crispness and comfort of autumn.

November 3: The rare treat of having my husband home for family time on a Sunday evening.  We spread out a picnic blanket in the living room and all piled on to watch a movie, feasting on homemade soft pretzels, popcorn, apples and cheese.

November 4: Another rare luxury – sleeping in while my husband got up with the kids and then being surprised with breakfast brought up to my bed, complete with flowers the kids wanted to pull from the yard. (And yes, I know they’re technically weeds, but I always receive them with a smile and marvel that God went to the trouble to garnish even the weeds with beauty.)

November 5: Silliness in the kitchen with my littles and the miracle of healthy children who ask for kale chips!

November 6: Getting to wrap a dear friend in a hug and even though it’s been several months since we’ve seen each other, knowing we are still treasured in each other’s hearts

November 7: The gift of working from home and the flexibility to re-arrange the day when children are feeling poorly and need extra snuggles

30 Thankful Days – Day 1

1 – The melody of my children’s laughter, their joy as free as the wind streaming through their hair while they run

2 – The strength of my husband’s hand against my back, how my skin tingles as he pulls me a little closer while we wait for our coffee

3 – Going through the pile of mail and finding a handwritten note from a story sister, the exact words my soul needed today

4 – The arrival of November with its whispered promises of rest and hope

5 – Waking up the smell of coffee brewing and cranberry muffins in the oven because my mother thought I might enjoy having someone fix breakfast for me for a change
